Yesterday I had a great conversation with Paul from thero.org. Paul graciously offered to help us build this tool by providing insight based on his experience as a counselor (and doctoral student of Clinical Psychology). Here’s the first message I got from Paul:

“I’m a big fan of this idea and I think it could do a lot of good. My first thought would be to add an additional question like: “What would help you most right now?” You could add pre-populated options such as “Someone to listen to me”; “Someone to help me problem solve”;”Someone to help me search for help” etc. In my experience people who want to help often make the mistake of trying to “fix” the problem or offer solutions instead of listening. It can be hard to know exactly what the person needs at any given time. Also, I think it can be hard to ask for help and know what specific kind of help you’re looking for. I’d love to talk with you more about the app.”

I am very excited about learning from Paul and making this tool better for the world because of it.
